Rametax is used in gastrointestinal infections, lower respiratory tract infections, and treatment of genitourinary infections
Dosage and method of use:
- adults:
- : 1 - 2 grams / 6 - 8 hours by intravenous administration, maximum 2 grams / 4 hours by intravenous administration.
- Caesarean section: 1 gm intravenously as soon as the umbilical cord is cut, provided that the second and third doses are given after 6 & 12 hours, respectively, from the time of the first dose.
- Nervous system infection: 2 gm IV / 4-6 hours.
- Bacterial endometriosis: 1 - 2 gm intramuscularly or intravenously / 8 hours, for at least 24 hours.
- Epiglottitis: 2 gm IV / 6-8 hours, for 7-10 days.
- Genital infection or inflammation of the urethra: 1 gm IV/8 hours.
- Intra-abdominal infection: 1-2 gm intravenously or intramuscularly every 6-8 hours, for 7-10 days.
- Arthritis: 1 - 2 g intramuscularly or intravenously / 6 - 8 hours, for 7 - 10 days.
- Meningitis: 2 g intravenously / 4-6 hours, for 14 days, depending on the severity of the disease.
- Osteomyelitis: 1 - 2 gm intravenously or intramuscularly / 6 - 8 hours, for 4 - 6 weeks.
- Peritonitis: 1 - 2 g intravenously / 6 - 8 hours, for 5 - 14 days.
- Pneumonia: 1 - 2 gm intravenously or intramuscularly / 6 - 8 hours, for 7 - 21 days.
- Lyme disease: 2 g intravenously / 8 hours, for 14-28 days
- Children: 100-200 mg/kg/day, by IV injection, to be divided into 2-3 doses throughout the day.
- For ages 13 and over: the same dose as an adult.

- It is caused by a non-progressive infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae but, like other cephalosporins, is not effective against Chlamydia trachomatis.
